Ryton traveled to Rovers for a development game. For a few of the Ryton players this was their first ever game of contact rugby. The game started with 12 a side and broken into 4 x 20 mins to allow for changes and a breather.

Rovers started brightly and scored in the first few minutes but Ryton hit back with a try of their own. The game was evenly contested but Rovers just had that little bit more experience and were able to move the ball wide to exploit the space on the large Rovers pitch. The game was played in good spirits by two committed teams. There was one serious leg injury to a Ryton player who twisted her ankle in a tackle. We all wish her well with her recovery.

This game was a good exercise for both teams. It gave Ryton some valuable contact experience and they held their own for large periods. This was also a chance for Rovers to try players in different positions and work on what they have been practicing. Ryton are looking to enter the RFU leagues next season and we wish them well with that. More local teams is what we need and with their thriving and successful junior teams they will have a bright future in the ladies game.

Rovers continued their momentum with this win and played some excellent rugby with slick handling and strong defence. The ladies travel to Kendall this Sunday which will be a stern test against a string side. But confidence is high and there is no reason why the ladies can't come away with the win.
