Hartlepool Rovers Announce Dylan Langley as New Captain

Hartlepool Rovers have announced that 28-year-old Dylan Langley will take over as their new captain for the upcoming 2024/25 season. Langley will be replacing Steve Barnfield, who has captained the side for the past 4 seasons.

Barnfield has decided to step down from the captaincy role in order to focus more on his coaching aspirations. He will be assisting the Hartlepool Rovers coaching team while also continuing to play for the club.

"We are grateful for all Steven has done and given to the club over the last four years," said Director of Rugby Darren Smith. "He's shown great leadership both on and off the pitch, leading from the front and being an important part of our senior leadership. I know he will make a fine coach moving forward and has a lot to pass on to our younger players transitioning into senior rugby."

Looking to the future, Smith commented on the selection of Langley as the new captain: "We had a good think about replacements for Steven and Dylan was the perfect fit. He's at a good age, he's played a lot of rugby for Rovers and has the respect of the lads. He will be integral in what happens on the pitch but also helping transition younger players into senior rugby."

Langley expressed his honour at being chosen to captain the club: "I am absolutely honoured to have been asked to captain Hartlepool Rovers. I have some big shoes to fill but I will give everything I can for the cause and make it a successful season."

The new captain has set his sights on bouncing back from last season's disappointing relegation. "Our aim for the season is to bounce back and restore our position in DN1, and build on the high points of last season. Although it was disappointing to everyone that we were relegated, we must build on that momentum from the amazing run at the end of the season."

Hartlepool Rovers are currently recruiting new players for the 2024/25 campaign. The club offers competitive and social rugby, high-skilled and experienced coaches, first-class physio support, an on-site gym, and major redevelopment of their ground and facilities is underway. Anyone interested in joining can get in touch with the club via any of our social.
