Club Dinner Review

darren smith8 May - 10:47

It was the annual club dinner last Friday. Here is a review of the evening and award winners.

Hartlepool Rovers recently held their annual end-of-season presentation night, which was a resounding success with over 90 attendees filling the clubhouse. The evening featured a delightful Indian banquet catered by RANJU’S CATERING, a local business known for their excellent food. The menu included a variety of starters, curries, rice, and breads, followed by ice creams, a full cheeseboard, and after-dinner mints.

In a refreshing change from the traditional after-dinner speaker, the audience enjoyed a performance by renowned North East comedian Steffan Peddie. His engaging storytelling and unique approach to handling hecklers kept everyone entertained and laughing throughout the evening.

The awards portion of the night began with Miffy reviewing the Heughers' season. The key awards included:
Player of the Year: Kieran Wright
Most Improved Player: Michael Lamb

Lee Saunders then took the stage to discuss the first team's season, highlighting both the successes and areas for improvement. Special recognition was given to the Colts players who transitioned to senior rugby.

The supporter player of the year awards were as follows:
3rd Place: Ben Glaister-Smith
2nd Place: Jack Gunn
1st Place: Ellis Trimble

Additionally, the top try-scorers were announced, with both Ellis Trimble and James Keers sharing the honor, each scoring 17 tries.

Head Coach Darren Smith provided a brief overview of the first team's largely positive season. 4th in the league and a county intermediate plate winners.

A significant moment of the night was the renaming of the Young Player of the Year award to the Mick Hanley Memorial - Young Player of the Year Award, honouring the late Mick Hanley for his contributions to the club. The inaugural winner of this award was Elliot Reed.

Other first team awards included:
Most Improved Player: Lewis Powell
Players' Player of the Year: Jack Gunn
Coaches' Player of the Year: Jack Gunn

Darren also expressed gratitude to the players, volunteers who support the club, particularly Ian Gallagher and his team for their exceptional physiotherapy services.

While the season is nearing its end, the final of the Pyman Cup is still to be played. Preseason arrangements for the 2025/26 season will be announced soon, and any players interested in joining the club are encouraged to contact Darren Smith at 0773056474. Hartlepool Rovers continues to be a progressive and forward-thinking club that values its players and volunteers.
