Bob Dring, Rest in Peace

Bob Dring, Rest in Peace

darren smith17 Jun - 12:30

We are saddened to share the passing of Bob Dring at the age of 73.

Bob’s connection to Rovers seemed destined from the start. His father, Ernie, was a devoted supporter, and his mother, Lizzie, served as a stewardess at the club for many years. Despite this strong family link, Bob was drawn to the sea from a young age. After time with the Sea Cadets, he trained in catering at Gravesend Sea Training School and, in 1972, joined the crew of the bulk carrier Tyne Bridge.

His passion for Rovers never faded, and he later introduced his son Andrew to the club through the junior section. Over 20 years ago, Bob took over the role of flagman from his father and became a familiar and valued presence, proudly raising the flag on match days ever since.

Pictured above is Bob with his son Andrew and Grandson Henry when Bob was recognised by Rovers as a key volunteer.

Bob’s funeral will take place on Monday 29 June at 10am at Stranton Crematorium. Afterwards, all are welcome to return to Hartlepool Rovers to share stories and remember him.

Bob will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. Our sincere condolences go to his wife Jean, his children Andrew and Victoria, and his wider family.

Words by Club President, John Baker
