Team: L.Saunders, O.Dakers, D.Carroll, C.Taylor, D.Hogg, K.McGuire, D.Charters, M.Wilson, S.Buttery, D.Fawcett, I.Mulvill,J.Montgomery, I.Gallagher, J.Gunn, B.Cushlow.
After a poor display last week the team was keen to put in a good display at home but it was Gosforth who started better kicking a penalty for offside after only 4 minutes, 0 – 3.
Dash Hogg got Rovers into the game taking a great catch at the restart and stormed into the Gosforth defence. Further breaks by Carrots, Ben Cush, Squid and slick hands from Muller pinned Gosforth back with Scott Buttery eventually scoring from close range for an unconverted try, 5 – 3, 11 mins.
The pressure went straight back on and a 60m run from Danny Charters was followed by fast hands across the backs for Ben Cush to score in the corner, Daz converted, 12 – 3, 20 mins.
It wasn’t all one way and Rovers were losing far to much ball due to not committing at the rucks but a third try came after 30 minutes when good line out ball was used for Daz to feed Danny on his inside shoulder who was far too strong for the defence to stop, 17 – 3.
Daz missed the kick but was taking great pleasure sending Mick Hanley wandering up and down West View road.
A fourth try quickly followed after good handling by Muller and Squid and a great run from Chris Taylor who was unluckily tap tackled. Matty Wilson eventually scored an unconverted try, 22 – 3, 34 mins.
The half ended with the visiting no8 being sin binned for stamping on Carrotts who had belly flopped a ruck 1980's style.
The second half started well with Daz tapping a quick penalty to Squid who ran a great line at pace smashing through to score, Daz converted, 29 – 3, 42 mins.
The game went scrappy for a bit with Gosforth applying a bit of pressure but a sixth try came after 60 minutes from one of many hooks against the head by Olly Dakers, quick ruck ball from the breakdown to Monty who had performed very well partnering Muller in the midfield. Daz converted, 36 – 3.
Rovers went back to sleep for a bit although Gosforth never really looked like scoring. The seventh try was scored by the hard working Chris Taylor for a final score of 41 – 3.
A good performance with special mentions to Dash Hog who had an outstanding game, Scotty who was great at scrum half, Muller and the hard working front row of Olly, Finbar and Carrotts.
