Rovers u18s continued to make good progress in the group stages of the national cup.
Rovers had a strong squad of 16 make the long trip to bArnard Castle. Barnie have been improving steadily this season and Rovers knew they would be in for a tough afternoon.
Rovers lost Amy to injury in the first few minutes. This was a big loss for Rovers as Amy has been in scintillating form this season.
Rovers started strong and were camped in the Barnie 22 but couldn’t get over the line. They did eventually score when the ball was moved and Grace touched down.
Rovers scored again when good forward play allowed the ball to move and once again Grace popped up to score. Ellie nailed the conversion.
Barnie did hit back with a try to make it evenly poised for the 2nd half.
The 2nd half started well for rovers with Grace completing her hatrick before Jay powered over.
The try of the day was Bekkah who finished off a full team move with a number of phases and unselfish handling from Nicole to put Bekkah in.
Barnie wouldn’t lie down and hit back with another before Grace notched her 4th and make the final score 12 - 32
A pleasing afternoon for the players coaches and supporters.
All of the players contributed once again to a good team performance. Tackling was first class with Kristen at the fore followed by Sophie, Ebonni, and Nicole. Grace finished well and Nicole was her dangerous self. The forwards are working hard as a pack with the front row working well together and everyone wanting the ball and carrying strong. Jay made metres as did Ellie Libby and Rebekah.
Mia just keeps on getting better at 9 and delivered well to ellie who was dictating things and was instrumental in a number of good midfield moves.
The team had two debutants who had fine games. Olivia and Adele slotted in seamlessly and will only enhance the team.
Thanks to Paul and everyone at Barnie for hosting.
Next up in the national cup is Horden who will be a tough test with it looking likely the winner will top the group. That’s scheduled for the 16th of December.
