The fixture was played at the Old Friarage, the home of Hartlepool BBOB. With the u15s at home and the Ladies having a league game there were no available pitches at Rovers HQ so BBOB kindly opened their doors to us. A big thanks to Eric and Andrew Arnell for sorting the pitch for us.
The game kicked off in very wet conditions but it was mild and calm. Rovers were straight on the offensive. From a scrum on the centre spot Amy picked from Number 8 and raced half the pitch to score in the opening seconds.
DMP showed great character and hit back with three tries of their own before Nicole showed a clean pair of heels to race to score under the posts. The conversion was good. HT Rovers 12 - 15 DMP.
The 1st half was very even with both teams struggling with handling in the wet conditions. Rovers were well up for the second half and scored a number of tries to take a deserved lead. Nicole once again raced clear to score followed by tries from Jay 2 and another for Amy. DMP did hit back with another deserved score to make the final score 34 - 20.
The game was a keenly contested one played in good spirits by two committed teams. Rovers tackling was generally excellent with a number of really big hits. Sophie, Amy, and Jay got through a massive amount of work. Mia S delivered the ball well and Player of the Match Ellie controlled thins from 10. Kristen and Mia L moved the ball well and Nicole was her usual self with some strong runs and strong last ditch tackles. It wasn't a day for wingers and Bekkah didn't see much of the ball but was sound in defence Up front Libby and Rebekkah got through a tremendous amount of work and Abbie the wrecking ball carried well and made yards. The coaches were pleased with the team performance and the girls working together to get the win.
Training continues Tuesday and Thursday 6.00pm and any girls in year 11 - 13 are encouraged to come along and get involved.
Next fixture is Sunday 21st October at Bishop Auckland.
