A stalwart of Hartlepool Athletic for many years (though he was certainly capable of playing at a higher level) Wally was tempted across to Rovers by the champagne rugby being served up by the then newly established Shad's Marauders.

Despite being in the twilight of his career Wally was one of the fittest of the team. Equally adept at centre or back row he was a perfect addition to the side and went on to feature in the 4th Team Shield winning teams.

Wally's sons Ian and Paul also went on to play for Rovers and our condolences go to them and all the family.

A superb rugby player and a smashing person.
