We are sad to announce that former Club Captain Neil Winn passed away suddenly on Tuesday.

A long-term Rover, Neil was a good all-round sportsman, playing cricket as well as Rugby and led the 1st XV in 2002/3 season.

He helped the young Rover’s side during his captaincy transition into senior rugby.

Although he normally played prop he was quite versatile, on one occasion playing for the 4th team away at Otley, alongside his dad Keith, and the three Puckrins, Bill, Les and Graeme, the Otley stand-off spotted Neil at full-back and sent a high ball in his direction only to see it caught cleanly and returned 60 yards back downfield. They didn’t’ try that trick again!

Despite all his health problems he always maintained a cheerful disposition and was at the club just a couple of weeks ago. He always kept in touch with former players and supported the team as much as he could.

He was very proud to see his son Shaun play juniors at Rovers and more recently to see his grandchildren playing for Rovers.

Our condolences go to his wife Kim, children Shaun and Sam, and the rest of the family.
